The clinician provides immediate crisis assessment, intervention, and short-term therapeutic support to patients in the Emergency Department. They also serve as a key resource to the interdisciplinary team by offering consultation on the psychosocial dimensions of patient care.
Candidates must hold a Master's degree in a mental health field and possess a valid clinical license such as LICSW, LMFT, LPCC, or LP. At least two years of clinical experience in a mental health setting is required.
Monday-Friday, 7:30-3:30, with the occasional weekend rotation and holiday.
Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination: Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling or other mental health profession 2 or more years of clinical experience in mental health setting Licensure/ Registration/ Certification: Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW)- MN Board of Social Work OR Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT)- MN Board of Marriage and Family Therapy OR Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC)- MN Board of Behavioral Health & Therapy OR Licensed Psychologist (LP)- MN Board of Psychology Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Clinical Assessment and Risk Evaluation Proven ability to efficiently, decisively, and accurately assess lethality and risk in patients presenting with suicidal or homicidal ideation, even under high-pressure conditions; experienced in evaluating complex mental health and substance use presentations. Integrated Clinical Formulation Skilled in synthesizing psychological, medical, and social data to formulate DSM-5-TR diagnoses, determine level of care, and develop clear, clinically-sound crisis interventions and disposition plans. Legal and Ethical Competency Knowledge of legal and ethical standards including HIPAA, informed consent, mandated reporting (e.g., child and vulnerable adult protection), and psychiatric hold criteria. Emergency Department Collaboration Familiarity with ED workflows and interdisciplinary collaboration; able to work efficiently in fast-paced environments and manage multiple urgent clinical situations with sound judgment. Substance Use and Co-Occurring Disorders Competent in evaluating and supporting individuals with substance use disorders, including dual-diagnosis presentations. Cultural Humility and Trauma-Informed Practice Demonstrates culturally responsive care, awareness of social determinants of health, and integration of trauma-informed principles into clinical work. Communication and Documentation Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to engage effectively with patients, families, clinical teams, and community partners. Proficient in electronic health record documentation. Regulatory and Systems Knowledge Understanding of county, state, and federal regulations including civil commitment processes, protective services protocols, and healthcare access systems. Knowledge of Community Resources Experienced in identifying and connecting patients to appropriate services including housing, mental health and substance use treatment, and other support systems.
