Prepares tissue specimens through chemical treatment, embedding, and staining for microscopic analysis. Manages specimen collection, accessioning, and the maintenance of laboratory equipment and supplies.
Requires completion of a CAHEA-accredited histotechnology program with an associate degree and relevant experience. ASCP certification as a histologic technician is required or the candidate must be eligible for certification.
Under the general supervision of the technologist in charge, prepares tissue specimens by treating with chemicals, embeds sections and stains slides from clinical and research according to standardized department lab procedures for an optimal microscopic examination and analysis. Monitors and maintains related equipment and supplies; and other duties as assigned.
